Overview
The Aviation and Technology Department at San Jose State University offers a Bachelor of Science in Aviation (BS Aviation). The department also offers a Master of Science in Quality Assurance (MSQA). The Aviation Program offers four options:
Professional Flight (Pilots), Aviation Management (Management), Flight Operations (Operations), and Maintenance Management (Maintenance). The department has an enrollment of 270 students. The Aviation Program's Flight Simulation Lab is equipped with over 10 simulators and has access to Reid-Hillview Airport, a 10,000 SF hangar, classrooms, laboratories, and offices. Students in both the Aviation and Technology Programs can participate in internships and earn credits.
Undergraduate students are encouraged to engage in individual research projects, collaborating with department faculty. The Department relies on its own students to supervise laboratory sessions and assist faculty in laboratory development and grading.

Responsibilities- Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a diverse student population through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
- Faculty shall organize all their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
- All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester or term, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in-person, or hybrid).
- Lecturers are expected to work with the Department Chair and Course Coordinators to develop course materials, teach courses effectively, maintain appropriate office hours in accordance with University Policy, and cooperate with the department in the peer-review process. Lecturers are encouraged to seek guidance from the Department Chair on policies related to grading, testing, textbooks, office hours, curriculum goals, disability accommodations, academic integrity, and other relevant matters.
- Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population and related experience.
- Depending on the program, PhD and MS degrees in the field or related areas are required. In exceptional cases, a BS degree with considerable experience may suffice. Industry experience is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of the subject matter of the discipline to which the individual is assigned.
- Evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work.
Compensation and salary range placement are determined by qualifications and experience. Anticipated starting salary:
- L-A / Range 2 - $5507 - $5959
- L-B / Range 3 - $6221 - $7481
- L-C / Range 4 - $6825 - $9431
- L-D / Range 5 - $8593 - $10347
Range salaries above are the anticipated monthly salary rate of full-time AY faculty; part-time rates are prorated. There are 6 monthly payments per semester. See the Faculty Salary Schedule for more information.

This is a continuing open position.
Employment ConditionsFaculty employees must complete CSU employee training as assigned and required based on their role. Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure Act and CSU systemwide policy, the faculty member in this position will be subject to ongoing review for designation as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). Questions regarding CSA designation and training can be sent to the Clery Director. Appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and California Faculty Association.
