PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
The goal of CORAL San José is to improve academic achievement in an after-school setting. Serving twenty two schools and a community center throughout San José, CORAL will provide high quality literacy support, project-based learning and STEAM activities linked to classroom curricula and California State Standards. CORAL seeks to strengthen children's foundation of basic skills, while providing them with a rich and high quality literacy, STEAM and enrichment curriculum.
GENERAL FUNCTION:
Under the direct supervision of the STEAM Program Supervisor the STEAM CORAL After School Instructor (CASI) will be responsible for the facilitation of STEAM curricula, and programs in the CORAL After school classrooms. The STEAM after school instructor will develop and carry out STEAM enrichment programs and work to raise academic achievement in a small group setting.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Planning and execution of STEAM lessons and activities
* Attending regular STEAM professional development sessions for developing new STEAM practices and programs
* Teach, direct and supervise school age children
* Maintain daily attendance
* Maintain data entry requirements
* Conduct home visits if needed
* Involve children in all program activities
* Develop age appropriate programming for children
* Responsible for the health, safety, and well-being of the children at all times
* Must be an active participant and a positive role model to children
* Exhibit courteous and helpful behavior to children, staff, parents/guardians, school personnel, agency representatives, and the general public
* Report to the STEAM Program Supervisor any behavioral concerns and/or incidents involving the children in the program
* Attend all staff meetings and CORAL professional development trainings
* Responsible for all equipment, supplies, and cleanliness of program areas;
Carry supplies and equipment related to STEAM activities to the school sites
* Carry out all policies of the site, agency, and overall San Jose CORAL goals and mission
* Travel between school sites to offer quality programming to engage students in STEAM activities
* Perform all other duties as required by the CORAL
QUALIFICATIONS:
* The qualified applicant will possess general knowledge, and interest in these areas:
* General Science, Math and Art
* Technology & Engineering - Knowledge of any block based coding language, willingness to learn and adapt new STEAM teaching practices and programs
* Lesson planning and implementation
* Classroom management
* Academic Tutoring
* Safety / Risk Management in a child centered program
* Must have a minimum of two years experience working with children
* Must have knowledge of working in racially diverse communities, under performing schools, low-socio economic areas
* Must acquire CPR and First Aid training.
* Must be able to lift up 25 lbs and do exercise with the students outside
* Must be willing to travel between school sites
EDUCATION:
* BA in Education or related field or equivalent work experience; or
* AA or a minimum of 48 college units; or
* Qualifications for an instructional aide according to the LEA policy; or
* High School diploma or GED
OTHER
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Fingerprint background clearance via Live Scan
* Must provide TB test results
