Associate Teacher

Responsibilities
  • Is responsible for child supervision and instruction as a part of a planned daily program in a manner that contributes to each child’s growth and development and is in compliance with District guidelines.
  • Is directly responsible to the Site Director of the program.
  • Works cooperatively with students, parents, and school staff. Maintains confidentiality of children, families and employees.
  • Staff works as a team, being flexible in their roles, and pitching in as needed. They are respectful of each other and model cooperation and effective communication.
  • Staff concentrates on working with children, keeping discussion of personal issues to a minimum.
  • Build relationships which support ongoing communication and partnerships with families.
  • Plan developmentally appropriate activities both indoor and outdoor based on children’s needs and interests.
  • Assist with completing Desired Results paperwork.
  • Plans and conducts daily activities in advance that reflect knowledge of child development and the program philosophy.
  • Assists in planning and preparing the learning environment, and preparing needed materials and supplies.
  • Maintains an orderly physical environment, keeping the equipment in good repair, the room clean and well organized, and replenishing supplies as needed to provide optimal growth and development of children.
  • Supervises children indoors and outdoors within well-defined boundaries to ensure the safety of all children at all times. Sets safe boundaries allowing for one to see the children, and get to them quickly should they need assistance.
  • Shows sensitivity toward children's needs for active and quiet times.
  • Is available for parent conferences and assumes responsibilities for regular parent communication.
  • Is responsible for the health, safety and well-being of all children enrolled; and for communication to parents of any accidents, first aid administered, or any other health related issues including cleanliness and diet.
  • Makes reasonable efforts to care for and protect school property, and to efficiently use supplies and equipment.
  • Assists other centers when requested.
  • Attends meetings as requested.
  • Staff participates in professional development activities; a minimum of 21 hours per year, including Family-Child Education’s required annual staff development training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Site Director/Assistant Site Director/Teacher.
  • Qualifications
  • 12 units ECE/CD including core courses (Core courses include child/human growth & development; child/family/community or child and family relations; and programs/curriculum).
  • Must possess and maintain a current Child Development Associate Teacher Permit or higher (applies to title 5 programs).
  • Prior experience working with young children preferred.
  • Must be CPR and First Aid certified and complete Infectious Disease Prevention Training.
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds chest high.
  • Pass health and TB screening and Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.
