The Lecturer will deliver studio art courses and theories of art education to BA Art—Preparation for Teaching students and other interested parties. Key responsibilities include developing inclusive course materials, assisting a diverse student population, and maintaining high instructional standards.
- Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a diverse student population—including age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation—through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
- Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
- Meet scheduled class times and adhere to the assigned mode (asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in‑person, or hybrid).
- Participate in 1‑2 faculty meetings per semester.
- Provide assessment data and information to the department.
Required qualifications include:
- Master of Arts degree in Art Education or equivalent.
- Holder of or qualified to hold a California Single Subject Credential in Art.
- At least two years of teaching art in K‑12 public schools.
- Demonstrated ability to teach all levels of Art Education classes to undergraduate and other students.
- Thorough knowledge of single‑subject credentialing requirements for elementary and secondary art teachers in California.
- Strong working knowledge of the California Arts Standards for Public Schools (2019) and the California Arts Education Framework (2020) as they apply to curriculum development.
- Knowledge of theoretical and practical constraints and possibilities of classroom teaching.
- Command of image making and visual exploration using traditional and digital media arts, and ability to collaborate across disciplines.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to educational goals of a multicultural population gained through cross‑cultural study, training, teaching, or comparable experience.
Monthly salary ranges for full‑time faculty (part‑time rates are prorated):
- L‑A / Range 2 – $5,507 – $5,959
- L‑B / Range 3 – $6,221 – $7,481
- L‑C / Range 4 – $6,825 – $9,431
- L‑D / Range 5 – $8,593 – $10,347
Rates are paid in six installments per semester.
