DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the Education Health and Supportive Services Department (EHSS) with classroom coverage during scheduled meetings.
- When not scheduled to provide meeting coverage, provide 1-on-1 support to children that need a higher level of support in the classroom.
- Work collaboratively with the Master Teacher and other classroom teacher to ensure the classroom remains safe and all children’s needs are met.
- Support in providing leadership and guidance to children, families, and staff.
- Establish a climate of respect for each child’s individual personality, physical characteristics and traits, culture, language and ethnic characteristics, family structure, developmental needs and behaviors.
- Establish and maintain a positive relationship with each child’s parent and/or caregivers.
- Relate to all children in encouraging and positive ways.
- Nurture and facilitate the learning experience by meeting each child at their point of need through a variety of teaching methods, which include but are not limited to individualized care and small group experiences.
- Interact daily with each child and support his or her learning process.
- Manage and implement a positive approach by combining consistency, empathy, and culturally diverse practices.
- Support in the implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum activities for children.
- Provide direct support, engagement, and extension of a child’s play and learning experiences by offering assistance and providing resources.
- Support in designing interest areas to provide choices, opportunities for safe risks, and challenge children to interact, learn, create, and thrive while corresponding with the developmental and individual needs of each child, thus fostering the desire to learn.
- Support Classroom and Behavior Management.
- Offer clear expressions of expectations with natural and logical consequences.
- Other duties assigned by the EHSS Director, Mental Health Clinical Supervisor, Master Teacher, Site Supervisor.
- Must be willing to travel to different SJB locations as assigned.
- Plan, supervise, and implement the program in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the agency.
- Participate in monthly staff meetings.
- Participate in clinical supervision.
- Support with Mental Health Consultation meetings and CHILD observations.
- Support in the monitoring of the provision of a safe, secure, clean, and challenging environment for children, families and staff.
- Mandated to report suspected child abuse.
- Support in the implementation of monthly fire drills, earthquake drills, and annual disaster drills.
- Support in reporting safety hazards and injuries to the Teacher immediately.
- Follow health and safety standards for children, families, and staff.
- Travel when necessary to conduct agency business.
- Support Site Supervisor in meeting all Licensing and Sub-Contractor Regulations, Funding, Terms & Conditions, SJB policies & procedures, and the Education Code where applicable.
- Maintain confidentiality of children, families, and employees.
- Work as a member of the SJB team by promoting the mission, values, and philosophy of SJB.
- Network with community and early childhood professionals.
- Network with related outreach organizations to remain current on issues affecting children and families as directed by Site Supervisor.
- Support with determining program/site needs and informs Teacher.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Associate Teacher Permit or higher or eligibility to obtain an Associate Teacher Permit or higher within 90 days.
- Required classes include a minimum of 12 semester ECE or CD units (including core courses – Programs/Curriculum, Child Family Community, Child/Human Growth & Development).
- Three semester units in the care and development of infants are required for those who work in the infant and toddler classrooms.
- Must be in good physical health as verified by a current health screening, including a test for Tuberculosis performed under the supervision of a physician not more than 60 days prior to employment.
