Department SummaryThe Aviation and Technology Department at San José State University offers a Bachelor of Science in Aviation (BS Aviation) and a Master of Science in Quality Assurance (MSQA). The Aviation Program includes four options:
Professional Flight, Aviation Management, Flight Operations, and Maintenance Management. The department hosts a Flight Simulation Lab with over ten simulators and access to the county’s Reid‑Hillview Airport, as well as classrooms, laboratories, and offices. Students can participate in internships and individual research projects, and graduate students may take Avia 180 and Tech 180 courses. Faculty rely on students to lead laboratory sessions, assist with development, and handle grading.
- Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a diverse student population through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
- Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
- Ensure all classes are offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester or term, in the mode assigned.
- Work with the Department Chair and Course Coordinators to develop course materials, teach effectively, maintain appropriate office hours, and cooperate in the peer‑review process. Seek guidance on grading, testing, textbooks, office hours, curriculum goals, disability accommodations, academic integrity, and other relevant matters.
- Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population, gained in cross‑cultural study, training, teaching, or comparable experience.
- PhD or MS degrees in the field or related areas are required; a BS degree with several years of experience may be considered in exceptional cases. Industry experience is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of the subject matter of the discipline to which the individual is assigned.
- Evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work.
Compensation and salary range placement are determined by qualifications and experience. Additional information is available in University Policy S21‑2.
- Anticipated starting salary: L‑A / Range 2 – $5,507 – $5,959 per month
- L‑B / Range 3 – $6,221 – $7,481 per month
- L‑C / Range 4 – $6,825 – $9,431 per month
- L‑D / Range 5 – $8,593 – $10,347 per month
Monthly salaries are for full‑time faculty; part‑time rates are prorated. There are six monthly payments per semester (full‑time annual salary = rate × 12). See Faculty Salary Schedule for more information.
