Instructional Aide – Special Education

Spectrum Center Schools and Programs, a division of Chance Light Behavioral Health, Therapy, & Education, seeks an Instructional Aide for our award‑winning Special Education program. This role supports student success in classroom and community settings.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate closely with classroom teachers to cultivate a supportive, welcoming, and high‑achieving learning environment.
  • Implement engaging, individualized instruction and behavioral interventions on‑site and in community settings, aligned with each student’s unique goals.
  • Instruct and monitor students during lessons, ensuring instructional fidelity and applying targeted strategies to enhance comprehension and course completion.
  • Track student progress against established timelines, communicating regularly with teachers about successes and areas needing additional intervention.
  • Manage student behavior effectively, reinforcing school philosophy and policies and applying consistent disciplinary measures in collaboration with teachers.
  • Support and mentor students facing academic challenges, encouraging personal growth and assisting them in developing essential community, vocational, leisure, domestic, academic, and social skills.
  • Maintain clear, accurate, and timely documentation of student behaviors and performance, report meaningful observations, and offer actionable recommendations to staff.
  • Assist with preparation of detailed behavioral reports, daily activity logs, and other necessary documentation.
  • Communicate proactively and clearly with students, colleagues, supervisors, and families regarding student needs, achievements, and concerns.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all student records and information.
  • Participate actively in assurance and accreditation activities, contributing to site performance standards and requirements.
  • Attend school‑wide, student‑parent, and advisory meetings to foster collaborative support networks.
  • Respond positively and constructively to formal and informal feedback, demonstrating continuous professional growth.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support student success and overall community effectiveness.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent with passage of basic skills test.
  • Associate degree or higher in education or a related field preferred.
  • Current CA state driver’s license or ability to obtain one.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certification in company‑approved crisis management training.
  • Paraprofessional, para educator, teaching assistant, or similar credential preferred.
  • Prior experience providing instruction, guidance, or support to children, preferably in alternative, special education, or behavioral health settings.
  • Skilled in working with children with learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, emotional/behavioral disorders, and related disabilities.
  • Comfortable driving and/or riding in a company van with students before/after school.
  • Ability to think and act calmly in emergencies and make independent decisions.
  • Proficient in motivating students and engaging in critical conversations to move them toward realistic goals.
  • Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem‑solving, and decision‑making.
  • Knowledge of relevant technology, including instructional technology, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry, and basic office equipment.
Education Requirements
  • High school diploma or higher in Diploma or Equivalent.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Ability to obtain CA state driver’s license.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute certification.
  • Paraprofessional credential.
