Librarians are represented by Unit 3 of the California Faculty Association (CFA) and are eligible for campus service opportunities, sabbaticals, and other leaves.

Position Description

The SJSU King Library at San José State University is pleased to announce a search for a full-time, tenure‑track Business Librarian position beginning in October 2026 or earlier. This hybrid (not fully remote) position is located at the King Library.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support student learning by working collaboratively with business faculty to facilitate the effective use of curriculum‑specific information resources.
  • Provide reference, consultative, and instructional services to undergraduates, graduate students, teaching faculty, and researchers in synchronous and asynchronous formats.
  • Engage in the selection and evaluation of information resources that support the curricular and research needs of business programs, faculty, and students.
  • Maintain familiarity with current and emerging research, scholarly communication trends, and AI technology in business.
  • Create, implement, and assess user‑centered library services and programs for assigned departments.
  • Build a record of scholarly and professional achievement to fulfill the university requirement of retention, tenure, and promotion.
  • Participate in shared governance, usually in department, college, and university committees and other service.
  • Demonstrate awareness and experience in understanding the needs of a diverse student population—including cultural, economic, linguistic and gender diversity—through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
Other Duties

All employees are mandated reporters under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and must comply with CSU Executive Order 1083. Faculty duties may include responsibilities related to the Clery Act and campus security. Faculty must complete CSU employee training as required, including data security, FERPA, Title IX, and health and safety.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association or an equivalent international degree.
  • Experience or coursework in information literacy instruction and reference services.
  • Evidence of potential to maintain an ongoing agenda in scholarly research and professional development at appropriate levels.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree or equivalent training/work experience in a business‑related field.
  • Experience with designing, implementing, and assessing library programs and services.
  • Experience in academic libraries.

Employment is contingent on U.S. residence and proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
