Overview

The Department of Art and Art History offers BA, BFA, MA, and MFA degrees and is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). The department emphasizes award-winning faculty, strong technical and administrative staff, and facilities that support creating, exhibiting, and researching art across media. It aims to foster creative and critical thinking, encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, and maintain a friendly, supportive community.

• Address the needs of a diverse student population through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
• Teach one or more undergraduate seminars in Art, including courses such as “The Artist in Contemporary Culture” and “Medium and Message.”
• Deliver courses that may be hybrid or online but include a substantial studio component and are required for all Art students.
• Participate in departmental meetings and assessment and evaluation activities.
• Encourage critical thinking and iterative concept development within class assignments.
• Support interdisciplinary collaboration with peers across programs within the Department of Art and Art History.
• Contribute to curriculum development as part of a dynamic department that values cross-disciplinary practice.
• Be aware of and address the needs of a diverse student population through inclusive teaching and advisement.
• Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
• Offer and schedule classes throughout the semester or term in the mode listed in the schedule of classes (asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in-person, or hybrid).

• Master of Fine Arts (MFA) or PhD in Art History, Visual Culture, or related field with substantial university-level teaching experience in studio art.
• Clear evidence of artistic and/or scholarly achievement, demonstrated by a portfolio of creative work and research interests.
• Familiarity with emerging areas of artistic practice and theory; ability to read and write at a high level and to direct and assess student writing.
• Ability to analyze texts and present them accessibly to undergraduate students.
• Awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population, gained through cross-cultural study, training, teaching, or comparable experience.

Compensation and salary range placement are determined by qualifications and experience. For range placement details, refer to University Policy S21-2. Anticipated starting salary: L-A / Range 2 - $5,507 to $5,959; L-B / Range 3 - $6,221 to $7,481; L-C / Range 4 - $6,825 to $9,431; L-D / Range 5 - $8,593 to $10,347. Salaries above reflect the anticipated monthly rate for full-time academic year faculty;
