The Department of Art and Art History, established in 1911, offers BA, BFA, MA, and MFA degrees and is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). The Digital Media Art (DMA) program at San José State University offers a digital art and design curriculum in computer graphics, web development, programming, physical computing, fabrication, prototyping, interactivity, and computer games.
The program seeks lecturers for studio art courses with expertise in digital media art, including:
- Raster and vector graphics for web, print, and broadcast
- Web development in HTML 5/CSS, and Java Script
- 2D/3D motion graphics and compositing in After Effects
- 3D modeling and animation in Autodesk Maya and/or Cinema 4D
- 3D printing using a wide range of commercial 3D printers
- Digital video production, editing, compositing, and basic sound design
- Knowledge of historical and theoretical foundations of digital art and new media
- Teach one or more studio courses in the DMA Program Area with a specific focus on 3D modeling, printing, and digital video.
- Studio courses meet in a lab environment for 3 hours twice a week.
- Participate in departmental meetings and assessment and evaluation activities.
- Encourage critical thinking and iterative concept development within class assignments.
- Collaborate across disciplines with peers in all programs within the Department of Art and Art History.
- Demonstrate inclusive teaching practices that address the needs of a diverse student population.
- Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
- Ensure classes meet as scheduled throughout the semester in the mode assigned (asynchronous, synchronous, hybrid, etc.).
Master of Fine Arts in Digital Media Art or related field; a record of artistic and/or scholarly achievement evidenced by exhibitions, publications, or curatorial projects; university-level teaching experience; a substantial portfolio of creative work with research interests in emerging artistic practice and theory; awareness and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population.
CompensationCompensation and salary range placement are determined by qualifications and experience. Anticipated starting salary:
- L-A / Range 2 - $5,507 - $5,959 monthly
- L-B / Range 3 - $6,221 - $7,481 monthly
- L-C / Range 4 - $6,825 - $9,431 monthly
- L-D / Range 5 - $8,593 - $10,347 monthly
These rates are monthly for full-time faculty; part‑time rates are prorated. There are six monthly payments per semester.

Contractual DetailsAppointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and follows the order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and the California Faculty Association.
