The School of Music and Dance at San José State University (SJSU) values diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Brief Description of Duties

The successful candidate will teach a weeklong course focusing on historically underrepresented and marginalized composers and communities in music education. The course will unpack decolonial practices in music education, with emphasis on inquiry-based pedagogy and culturally responsive teaching.

• The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of a commitment to equity and inclusion through their research, teaching, and/or service. They must demonstrate awareness of and experience understanding the needs of a diverse student population — in terms of age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation — through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
• Faculty shall organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
• All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the semester or term, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in-person, or hybrid).

• MA or MM in Music
• Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population through cross-cultural study, training, teaching, or other comparable experience.

Compensation and salary range placement are determined by qualifications and experience. For range placement details, see University Policy S21-2. The maximum rate (listed below) is the usual salary per Weighted Teaching Unit (WTU) in Special Session. Class enrollment is not limited to 25 students and may be higher if appropriate to course type.

• L-A / Range 2: $2279 per WTU
• L-B / Range 3: $2497 per WTU
• L-C / Range 4: $3146 per WTU
• L-D / Range 5: $3977 per WTU

The work for this faculty position is located in the State of California. Employment is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
