The Department of Computer Science at San Jose State University is pleased to announce a search for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Computer Science with a specialization in bioinformatics or a related field, beginning in August 2027. Related areas include computational biology, genomics and other omics data analysis, biological sequence and structure analysis, biomedical data science, and machine learning and AI methods applied to biological and health data.

The position will be required to teach a variety of required and elective courses in Computer Science and Data Science, as well as courses in the MS in Bioinformatics program.

The Department of Computer Science offers BS and MS degrees in Computer Science and a BS in Data Science. We also offer a BS in Computer Science and Linguistics (jointly with the Department of Linguistics and Language Development), an MS in Data Science (jointly with the Department of Mathematics and Statistics), and an MS in Bioinformatics, and we support the BS in Software Engineering (curriculum jointly administered with the Department of Computer Engineering).

The faculty members are excellent teacher-scholars with rich publication records in the areas of machine learning, data science, information security, mobile networking, social networks, bioinformatics, and other fields.
