About the Role
Muon Space is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Senior Electrical Hardware Engineer to join our growing team in San Jose, CA. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the design, development, and testing of cutting‑edge electrical hardware for our next‑generation spacecraft. You will work closely with experienced engineers across various disciplines to bring innovative satellite systems to life.
Responsibilities- Contribute to the design and development of electrical systems for spacecraft avionics, including areas such as flight computers, power distribution, guidance and navigation, sensors, actuators, and communication systems.
- Schematic capture and PCB layout.
- Bring‑up, testing, and validation of newly designed hardware.
- Collaborate with software engineers on the integration and testing of hardware and software components.
- Build and test early hardware prototypes to evaluate design concepts and mitigate risks.
- Work cross‑functionally with mechanical, software, systems, and production teams to ensure successful integration and manufacturability of hardware.
- Contribute to the creation of design documentation, test procedures, and reports.
- Participate in design reviews and provide constructive feedback.
- Mentor other engineers and push the team to new heights in your respective domain.
- Prefer, but don’t require, B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 3-8 years of experience in hardware engineering, preferably with exposure to electronic systems (relevant internships and academic projects will be considered).
- Familiarity with electronic components, circuits, and test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies).
- Expert level knowledge in schematic capture and PCB layout software (e.g., Altium, Cadence/Orcad).
- Understanding of microcontrollers and common communication interfaces (e.g., UART, SPI, I²C, CAN, Ethernet).
- Experience with embedded systems, embedded programming concepts and comfortable in a Linux development environment.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and a hands‑on approach to engineering challenges.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- A strong desire to learn and contribute in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
- Familiarity with environmental testing considerations (e.g., vibration, thermal, EMI).
- Exposure to scripting languages like Python for test automation or data analysis.
- Experience with power electronics for space applications (e.g., batteries, GaN switching converters, load‑switch design).
- Experience with FPGAs, SoC, or embedded Linux platforms.
- Leadership experience in clubs or on small teams.
- Previous startup experience or experience working in a fast‑paced environment.
- The salary range for this role is $186,000 – $202,000, plus a competitive equity grant and comprehensive benefits package. Final compensation will be determined based on skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location as assessed during the interview process.
In addition to salary, full‑time employees receive equity compensation as well as medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, short‑ and long‑term disability and life insurance. We also offer three weeks paid vacation for new employees, along with 12 paid holidays, unlimited sick time and paid parental leave.
