Position: Staff Geotechnical Engineer

Job Description

Staff Geotechnical Engineer – San Jose, CA (in‑office with occasional travel to field sites).

Responsibilities
  • Planning and oversight of field investigations
  • Comprehending local geologic conditions
  • Performing engineering analyses, including slope stability, seismic, retaining wall, deep and shallow foundation, and pavement design
  • Utilizing geotechnical engineering software such as Slope/W, SLIDE, SHAFT, LPILE, APILE, and Settle3
  • Writing geotechnical reports and proposals
  • Conducting construction observations, including pile installation, excavations, and earthworks
  • Supporting senior engineers and project managers with project and proposal duties
  • Assisting senior operations and technical staff with field explorations, construction observations, engineering analyses, and other technical support under supervision
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering, or Master’s degree
  • 3 to 6 years of geotechnical experience with a bachelor’s degree, or 2 years with a master’s, or equivalent
  • Engineer–In–Training (EIT) certification required, with intent to obtain California PE within the next few years
  • Positive work attitude and ability to work safely while managing multiple tasks
  • Ability to work independently or in a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Willingness and ability to travel within southern California and occasionally outside the region for field assignments; readiness to work beyond a standard 40‑hour week when necessary
  • Clean driving record and successful completion of a drug test required
