Senior Formation Manufacturing Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Cell Formation Engineer to lead the deployment, integration, and ramp‑up of cell formation and aging systems for next‑generation cell production. This role owns the full lifecycle of formation systems including charge‑discharge equipment, formation protocols, and aging processes from system definition and vendor selection through commissioning and stable SOP operation.

You will collaborate closely with cell development, process engineering, and production teams to define formation strategies, commission new equipment, and implement scalable formation solutions.

• Translate development and pilot learnings into scalable process and equipment requirements for formation and aging systems
• Define formation strategies, cycle times, and performance targets for high‑volume production
• Lead specification, selection, and commissioning of formation equipment including charge‑discharge systems and aging infrastructure
• Own equipment ramp from installation through stable SOP, delivering throughput, yield, and OEE targets
• Own performance of formation processes during ramp, including capacity, efficiency, and yield improvement
• Identify system and process bottlenecks and drive root cause resolution during ramp and production
• Partner with equipment vendors and cross‑functional teams (cell development, facilities, automation, quality) to deliver integrated manufacturing solutions
• Support factory design, layout, and material flow for formation and aging production areas

• 5+ years of experience in lithium‑ion battery manufacturing or high‑volume production environments
• Hands‑on experience with formation systems including charge‑discharge equipment and aging processes
• Proven track record of leading equipment specification, vendor engagement, commissioning, and ramp to high‑volume production
• Strong understanding of formation fundamentals including electrochemical performance, cycle development, and degradation behavior
• Demonstrated ability to scale processes from development into stable, high‑throughput manufacturing
• Experience driving technical decisions across cross‑functional teams (cell development, facilities, automation, quality)
• Hands‑on experience supporting equipment installation, commissioning, and production ramp
• 50% international travel

• Experience building or scaling a gigafactory or large‑scale battery manufacturing facility
• Experience working with high‑power electrical systems and thermal management infrastructure
• Familiarity with formation optimization strategies and cycle development
• Experience with data‑driven process control and yield optimization (SPC, Cp/Cpk, DOE)
• Experience influencing equipment design and working closely with global OEMs
