Field Application Engineer (FAE) – Northwest Sales and Application Team
A Field Application Engineer will leverage engineering design skills to reduce client development time, lower overall system costs, and improve product performance. The role provides hardware, firmware, middleware, and development tools support, serving as a trusted technical advisor across consumer, transportation, medical, military, and security markets.
OverviewPrimarily a customer engagement role aimed at driving design wins and revenue at large accounts. Responsibilities include providing in‑depth engineering support, creating demos or proof‑of‑concepts for end customers, visiting and training customers, and advising on product enhancements. Reports to the FAE Manager in San Jose, CA.
Main Functions Include- Grow the “Security opportunities” funnel in collaboration with the Sales and Business teams.
- Act as the trusted security advisor for Microchip Security products and solutions.
- Provide in‑depth engineering support and assist customers with hardware and software development.
- Develop proof‑of‑concept solutions to help clients become familiar with Microchip products.
- Gather customer inputs and influence security‑related product roadmaps.
- Travel as required for training and regional support.
- Participate as a member of a function‑expertise team.
Technical Skills
- Experience in embedded systems and strong technical capabilities.
- Knowledge of hardware and software designs using microcontrollers/microprocessors (Microchip preferred).
- Expertise in embedded security cryptography, PKI principles, and certificate management.
- Working knowledge of hardware‑based security techniques such as HSM, Trust Zone, Secure Boot, etc., integrated into robust hardware/software system designs.
- Familiarity with IoT systems and cloud connectivity platforms (Google, AWS, Azure).
- Experience in design or technical support is a plus.
- Proficiency in embedded C programming; embedded Linux knowledge is a plus.
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

Pay RangeThe annual base salary range for this position in the U.S. is $75,000–$166,000, dependent on location, skills, and experience.
