Position Overview

AECOM is seeking an experienced Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Compliance Professional to join its EHS & Air team in a hybrid role based in San Jose, California. The successful candidate will work alongside a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists, delivering environmental, health, and safety consulting services to clients across California.

This role is ideal for a professional with a strong understanding of environmental regulations, workplace safety requirements, and compliance programs. The position offers the opportunity to support a diverse portfolio of local, national, and international clients in meeting their environmental and EHS obligations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct environmental, health, and safety audits and inspections across a variety of facilities, including manufacturing, commercial, and technology-based operations, identifying compliance gaps, risks, and corrective actions.
  • Interpret and apply federal and state regulations, including requirements from agencies such as OSHA, EPA, RWQCB, and DTSC, while advising clients on compliance obligations.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of permits, audit findings, compliance reports, and other regulatory documentation.
  • Provide on-site EHS support and consulting services to client facilities.
  • Design and deliver employee training programs related to environmental compliance, workplace safety, and emergency preparedness.
  • Develop, implement, review, and maintain OSHA- and state-mandated safety and health management programs, procedures, and systems.
  • Offer technical guidance and regulatory interpretation on environmental and occupational health and safety matters.
  • Investigate workplace incidents and prepare reports required by regulatory authorities.
  • Advise clients on managing chemical, physical, and workplace hazards, including ergonomics, electrical safety, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, lockout/tagout programs, and emergency response planning.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to provide integrated environmental compliance and EHS consulting services.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Safety, Environmental Studies, or a related discipline.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, in environmental compliance and occupational health and safety.
  • Ability to travel approximately 25% of the time (about one week per month) to conduct client audits and site assessments.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and successful driving record verification.
  • U.S. citizenship required due to project and client requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 4 or more years of experience in environmental compliance and health and safety management.
  • Professional certifications such as CPEA, PE, CSP, CIH, CHMM, or comparable credentials.
  • Experience working with ISO 45001, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001 management systems.
  • Knowledge of environmental compliance requirements for industrial and manufacturing facilities.
  • Strong communication, organizational, project management, and planning capabilities.
