Software Applications Engineer

Overview

Max Linear is seeking a Staff Software Applications Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will focus on supporting customer designs with components from Max Linear’s Data Center Connectivity division, specifically high-speed PAM4 DSPs and Transimpedance Amplifiers (TIAs) used in IMDD optical modules, Linear Receive Optics (LRO) modules, Active Electrical Cables (AECs), and related products requiring high-speed SERDES interfaces.

• Work with local customers and support their product designs with components from Max Linear’s Data Center Connectivity division on the following products: high-speed PAM4 DSPs and Transimpedance Amplifiers (TIAs).
• Support Max Linear DSP integration into customer products.
• Address customer technical questions beyond software.
• Write and support example microcontroller code to interface with Max Linear DSP APIs.
• Collaborate on GUI definition and/or development.
• Develop conference and customer demonstrations of Max Linear DSP capabilities.
• Optimize SERDES and optical links through DSP signal processing block configuration.
• Travel around California and occasionally Asia as required.

• Proficient in programming languages C, C++, and Python.
• Knowledge of latest OIF’s Common Management Interface Specification (CMIS).
• Experience programming microcontrollers such as STMicroelectronics STM
  32 series.
• Knowledge of I2C and SPI interfaces and developing drivers.
• Experience with optimizing PAM4 signals for receiving and transmitting.
• Experience with configuring and coding for RTOS, GUI development, and signal processing experience preferred.
• Experience working with lab equipment such as BERTs, DCAs, and traffic analyzers preferred.
• Knowledge of SERDES interfaces, signal processing blocks, and performance metrics preferred.
• Knowledge of and writing control code for EML and MZ based modulators preferred.
• BS in Electrical Engineering or related field with 5 years of experience, or MS with 3 years of experience, or Ph.D. preferred.

Max Linear has a Total Compensation philosophy which includes base salary and annual discretionary bonus eligibility; many positions also include stock-based compensation. The starting base salary range is estimated at $115,000 to $170,000 annually. The actual starting base salary will be determined by role-related criteria such as educational degree(s) or equivalent, relevant work experience, skillset required for the role, and geographic location.
