Position: Lead Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer

Location: San Jose/Great Oaks

Shift: 1st shift

Job Summary

The Lead EHS Engineer is responsible for leading the establishment, implementation, and continuous improvement of a safe and compliant work environment across multiple sites. This includes managing EHS regulations, policies, and safety objectives to ensure a healthy and accident‑free workplace aligned with local and global standards.

U.S. Citizenship is required due to customer requirement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Safety and Regulatory Compliance:
    Identify hazards and recommend corrective or preventative measures.
  • Lead initiatives to reduce recordable injuries and improve safety performance by monitoring safe systems of work and current procedures.
  • Participate in pre‑startup safety reviews and equipment walk‑downs to identify safety concerns and conduct audits.
  • Conduct process HAZOPs and risk assessments; ensure risk assessments are regularly updated.
  • Review plant modifications, providing technical safety input for new facilities and automation lines.
  • Facilitate change management processes related to EHS across facilities.
  • Perform gap analyses and internal audits based on global EHS policy and international standards (ISO
    14001, OSHAS
    18001, EICC EHS Code Conformance).
  • Support sites and corporate functions during certification audits.
  • Use enterprise systems to initiate, track, close, and measure effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions.
Training & Development
  • Create and validate training curricula aligned with safety policies.
  • Assess training needs with the Training Coordinator, select providers, and deliver training.
  • Ensure timely delivery of mandatory regulatory health and safety training.
  • Ensure sufficient staff are trained as first aiders and fire wardens.
Emergency Response & Safety Systems
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans and ensure effective fire protection systems.
  • Coordinate emergency evacuations and drills.
  • Promote safety awareness through communication sessions and forums.
Policy Development & Implementation
  • Develop and update site safety statements and policies with plant management.
  • Communicate safety statements and policies to employees periodically.
  • Provide direction and advice on implementing Health & Safety legislation and best practices.
Leadership & Mentorship
  • Lead and coach the EHS team to deliver excellence.
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts through trend reporting and cost‑conscious management.
  • Promote safe work practices for staff and contractors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education

A bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, or a related discipline.

Experience
  • Minimum 3 years relevant Health/Safety experience within manufacturing or a related industry, or equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
  • Recent OSHA 30 Certification is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Essential Skills
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant safety legislation.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from stakeholders.
  • Self‑starter with problem‑solving skills and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work with all levels and third parties.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and other relevant software tools.
Desirable Skills
  • Experience monitoring hazardous substances/waste and stormwater permit compliance.
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience in risk assessment, process hazards analysis, and industrial hygiene.
  • Proven ability to coach, mentor, and lead teams to deliver EHS excellence.
Work Environment & Conditions
  • Possible travel between sites and manufacturing facilities.
  • Occasional work in industrial settings and plant environments for audits.

The pay range for this role is $125,100 - $225,300. Compensation will be based on qualifications, experience, location, education, and market data.
