Overview

Nokia is seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer to support EHS operations across its California manufacturing sites in Sunnyvale and San Jose.

This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and compliant work environment for employees working in semiconductor manufacturing, development labs, and office settings.

This role requires a strong on-site presence (5 days per week) to support ongoing operations at facilities that run 24/7. Flexibility is essential, as occasional after‑hours response may be required to address urgent EHS matters.

Responsibilities Environmental
  • Manage hazardous waste, including storage, tracking, reporting, and regulatory compliance
  • Oversee chemical safety programs (handling, storage, and emergency planning)
  • Support and audit the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS)
  • Monitoring/performing hygiene assessments
Safety
  • Knowledgeable in both understanding and implementing OSHA/Cal‑OSHA requirements
  • Lead and support Emergency Management and Response activities
  • Conduct or participate in incident investigations and perform root cause analysis
  • Perform routine site safety inspections
  • Monitor and control hazardous chemical usage in accordance with safety standards
  • Lead and manage onsite Emergency Response Team

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
  • 3‑5 years of experience in Environmental, Health & Safety or a related discipline
  • Experience in EHS roles in Telecommunications, semiconductor processing facility or similar operations.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and drive safety improvements.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to lead initiatives and work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Other responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively within a team environment, providing support and acting as a delegate when needed.
  • Participate in EHS and business unit meetings, forums, and discussions.
  • Prepare and deliver periodic reports on Environmental, Health & Safety performance (both internal and external)
