Operations Manager
Bloom Energy is seeking a Sr. Commodity Manager to join our team in San Jose, CA. This fully on‑site, in‑office role reports to the Sr. Director, Commodities.
Role and Responsibilities- Lead the short‑ and medium‑term strategies for assigned commodities.
- Align supplier strategies downward and with long‑term sourcing and fulfillment strategies upward.
- Ensure availability of materials to support production and order fulfillment.
- Execute the Business Continuity Plan, identifying and mitigating supply risks.
- Drive cost reduction through negotiation, cost‑reduction projects, benchmarking, cost modeling, should‑be costing, and make‑vs‑buy analysis.
- Support release of prototype or qualification material orders and ensure timely delivery.
- Manage supplier performance related to quality, continuous process improvement, qualification, and cost of poor quality.
- Develop new suppliers and contract manufacturers, utilizing strong project management skills and cross‑functional collaboration.
- Manage or conduct supplier audits, scorecards, and quarterly business reviews.
- Work closely with contract manufacturers to support technology transfer and DFM activities, ensuring smooth transitions of changes including technology, ECN, NPI, and minimizing related engineering or operations disruptions.
- Facilitate problem‑solving groups to meet current and future needs of the company.
- Develop strong cross‑functional relationships with procurement, engineering, quality, manufacturing, finance, marketing, sales, product management, and other departments.
- Travel 10‑25% domestically or internationally depending on commodity or supplier responsibilities.
- BS/MS/MBA in Engineering/Technology or Supply Chain; mechanical design experience is a plus.
- 7‑10 years of experience in supply chain, ideally in a manufacturing company.
- 5+ years of management experience.
- Technical background with knowledge of engineering and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read and understand production drawings.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in other languages is beneficial.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and purchasing/planning functions.
- Proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel (formulas and macros).
- Contract negotiation and project management skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- High energy, self‑motivation, and collaborative team player.
