We are seeking a Product Design Engineer with deep experience in pouch cell design, productization, and manufacturing scale-up to lead the mechanical design and integration of next-generation pouch battery systems. This role will own cell architecture, engineering drawings, and BOM strategy from concept through pilot and production. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical leadership, cross-functional influence, and hands-on battery design expertise to deliver robust, scalable, and high-performance products.
** Job Responsibilities**:
* Lead design and release of pouch cell assembly drawings, specifications, CAD models, and BOMs
* Own electrode layout, stack architecture, and mechanical containment design
* Drive design-for-manufacturability and scale-up readiness
* Lead DFMEA/PFMEA, tolerance stack-up, and engineering change management
* Resolve complex assembly and integration challenges (tabs, sealing, electrolyte distribution, swelling)
* Translate manufacturability into robust design rules
* Lead DOE planning and statistical analysis to optimize performance
* Establish in-process quality control and inspection criteria
* Drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions
* Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain
* Support supplier technical reviews and cost reduction initiatives
* Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership
** Required Skills/
Qualifications:
*** MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field
* 3+ years hands on experience in cell design working in the high volume battery manufacturing industry
* Proficient in CAD design (Solid Works preferred)
* Experience with PLM/PDM systems
* Proficient in data analysis tools (Python, R, MATLAB, Excel)
* Understanding of battery quality control methods (Hi-Pot, dimensional analysis, CT scans, weld testing, leak testing, etc.)
* Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC)
* Strong understanding of pouch cell architecture, cell electrochemistry and battery performance trade-offs
* Experience working with cross-functional NPI or pilot builds in a fast-paced environment.

*** Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
* Be able to work in a lab standing up to 8 hours each day.
