Senior Engineer, GPU Modeling Architect

Samsung, a world leader in advanced semiconductor technology, is founded on the philosophy of relentless pursuit of excellence to create a better world. At the Samsung Austin Research and Development Center (SARC) and Advanced Computing Lab (ACL) we are building a center of excellence for intellectual property applied to high‑performance computing devices (mobile, automotive, and other custom market segments) consumed by millions worldwide.

Role Overview

As a mid‑to‑senior individual contributor, you will design and develop high‑performance functional models that shape next‑generation Samsung GPUs. You will:

  • Define functional modeling of various blocks of the GPU pipeline to drive architectural exploration and design decisions.
  • Architect, implement, and validate C++/SystemC‑based GPU models, ensuring accuracy, scalability, and integration across hardware and software environments.
  • Perform model‑based performance validation and correlation, identify bottlenecks, and propose architectural and micro‑architectural optimizations to improve GPU performance, power efficiency, and functionality.
  • Collaborate with architects, RTL designers, verification engineers, and software teams to align modeling behavior with design intent, debug system‑level interactions, and support early design bring‑up.
  • Take initiative on moderate‑to‑complex projects, advancing best practices and staying ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies.
  • Skills and Qualifications
    • 2+ years of experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering or a related technical field, or a Master’s degree.
    • Proficiency in software design and architecture.
    • Hands‑on experience with C++ (STL) in a Linux environment.
    • Strong understanding of GPU/CPU or computer architecture and micro‑architecture concepts.
    • Experience with revision control systems, debuggers, and build tools such as make/CMake.
    • Familiarity with hardware modeling and performance profiling and analysis.
    • RTL verification experience is preferred.
    • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to identify bottlenecks and propose data‑driven solutions.
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity in a fast‑paced, global team environment.
    Team

The GPU Architect team delivers whole‑system architecture‑level design for Samsung’s current and next‑generation mobile GPUs. The team spans early‑stage architectural exploration and research in graphics and machine learning, shaping the GPU innovation roadmap, defining new features, building models, and delivering micro‑architecture design and programming.

    Benefits and Compensation
    • Base pay range: $124,000 – $208,400, depending on education, skills, experience, and location.
    • Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k), onsite lunch, employee purchase program, tuition assistance (after 6 months), paid time off, student loan program, wellness incentives, and more.
    • Eligible for MBO bonus compensation and long‑term incentive plans.
    • Potential relocation support.
