Senior Electrical Estimator

This position can be based out of any of our San Jose, CA location or fully remote.

About the Position

As an Electrical Estimator you will assist the pre‑construction and project management teams by preparing estimates, reviewing proposals and bids, conducting document reviews, performing cost value analysis, evaluating historical data, and supporting bid processes. Senior Estimators collaborate with job‑specific teams, participate in business development and client management, and provide training and mentoring to junior estimators.

Day in the Life
  • Plans and coordinates the activities of each assigned project for quality and accuracy of work, including performing estimates, scheduling tasks, and achieving goals and standards. Leads the creation of all bids, documents, and reports accurately, complete, and professionally.
  • Secures and reviews quotes from subcontractors, plans all project take‑offs to optimize labor efficiency, attends and leads estimate review meetings, assists in the procurement interview process, and writes proposals for RFPs.
  • Works with the project manager and chief estimator to determine general expenses, labor rates, and other costs associated with each project; works with the design department on design‑build projects to assure an accurate and constructible job; works with the purchasing department to reduce material buy‑outs.
  • Utilizes estimating software to properly estimate projects, ensuring all estimates and RFPs are fulfilled to the customer’s or company’s satisfaction. Stays informed of new electrical codes, technology, techniques, and practices and surveys job sites as needed for scope and cost‑effective planning.
  • Composes, plans, coordinates, and controls all assigned estimates to maximum time while meeting project deadlines for customers and co‑workers.
  • Establishes and maintains a positive, cooperative working relationship with clients, subcontractors, and co‑workers; coaches and mentors other estimators and co‑workers on large projects.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree or equivalent work experience in construction management or a related field.
  • Minimum 5–8 years of electrical construction experience in estimating, common code requirements, and design/build estimating.
  • Experience using Accubid or similar estimating software and field installation work.
  • Skills to read, interpret and understand electrical contracts, plans, drawings, blueprints, and specifications; extensive knowledge of electrical codes; excellent conceptual estimating, critical thinking, analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including high‑quality documentation and report preparation; strong telephone and client communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, independent problem‑solving, detail orientation, time management, customer service, coaching, training, and mentoring skills.
  • In‑depth skills and experience in project management and a thorough understanding of the project life cycle.

Occasional travel may be required.
