Project Engineer (San Jose, CA)
Therma, a Legence Company, seeks an immediate Project Engineer to assist the Project Manager with overall planning & scheduling, resource allocation, and project accounting. This role requires experience in construction and strong project management skills.
LocationSan Jose, CA (Full-time onsite)
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Project Planning, Cost Management, Time Management, Quality Management, Contract Administration, and Safety Management
- Maintain strong relationships with GC’s and Owners
- Assist in gathering pricing and ensuring on‑time delivery of materials from vendors
- Manage schedule, billings, submittals, RFIs, change orders, and select/monitor subs
- Perform pre‑construction administrative duties
- Submittal Management, COR/CO Management, Schedule Updates, Meeting preparation and participation
- Project Reporting Management
- Administrative and office support for the project management team
- Assist in developing project documentation & estimating by reviewing Specifications, Instructions to Bidders, and Construction Drawings
- Generate pre‑bid Requests for Information and track project issues
- Prepare project close‑out documents, internal work documents, and shipping documents
- Order and track materials; assist in material selection
- Establish and maintain vendor/supplier relationships; negotiate prices; schedule or expedite deliveries
- Prepare purchase orders and secure approval from Project Managers
- Experience working for an HVAC or plumbing mechanical contractor on large commercial projects strongly preferred
- Experience in the construction industry required
- Mechanical Engineering degree or related construction degree strongly desired
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Organized: Sense of urgency, ability to set priorities, and build action plans; thorough, methodical, result‑oriented with strong attention to detail; combines predictable SOPs with continuous improvement.
- Problem‑Solving: Identifies patterns beyond noise; demonstrates willingness to engage, asks questions, separates facts from assumptions, provides practical solutions.
- Agile: Capable of shifting between self‑reliance and collaboration; operates in multi‑site, matrixed environment; adaptable and willing to adjust style.
$85k–$120k, depending on experience.
