Position: Principal Environmental Engineer (Seller/Doer)

Overview

We are currently seeking a Principal level industry leader in environmental consulting and remediation to join our growing San Francisco Bay Area team. The ideal candidate brings significant consulting experience and client relationships to provide leadership, strategic direction, and cutting‑edge technical support to increase our client base in the Bay Area. This candidate will both grow our client base and implement site characterization, remedial technology evaluation, design, and construction phases on projects for real estate developers, higher education institutions, and other industrial clients.

We look for creative professionals to work on complex projects with collaborative, multidisciplinary project teams, who also possess technical or project‑management skills and who help with business development and bring relationships to new projects. This hybrid position requires residency in Walnut Creek, CA, San Jose, CA, or Oakland, CA.

Key Responsibilities General
  • Serve as a key member of the San Francisco Bay Area leadership team to drive profitable growth of the environmental consulting business across multiple markets.
  • Develop and implement a strategic business/action plan, provide leadership to develop staff, and deliver financial results to grow the company’s Environmental business.
  • Provide leadership in developing staff, managing their performance, recruiting and retaining top talent, and providing mentoring to drive overall success.
Business Development
  • Personally engage in developing and executing strategic environmental consulting work with identified existing and target clients.
  • Actively participate in at least two professional organizations focused on the market area and/or issues faced by our clients.
  • Have a passion and demonstrated success for developing business with new clients and continuing to foster trusted relationships with existing clients.
  • Develop annual client action plans, estimate client revenue and profits to support strategy deployment, and lead pursuits with project team members.
  • Develop and implement business strategies to meet stated business metric goals for the San Francisco Bay Area in cooperation with other offices and senior management.
  • Prepare proposals and obtain mutually agreeable contracts.
Project Delivery
  • Direct and execute environmental consulting projects, acting as the main client contact for any work attained.
  • Oversee the safe execution of all phases of a project to meet the client’s objectives, as well as company goals for revenue generation and profitability.
  • Demonstrate strong technical competence in the services required by the client.
  • Manage all phases and aspects of projects to address client goals and objectives.
  • Direct the execution of projects to meet technical, quality, budgetary and scheduling requirements.
  • Coordinate with client representatives and external stakeholders.
  • Work cooperatively in a team‑based environment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • BS in civil or environmental engineering, geology, hydrogeology, or related discipline; MS degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in strategic environmental consulting in the greater San Francisco Bay Area market.
  • Professional registration in CA.
  • Project experience and established relationships with owners and A/E firms in the greater San Francisco Bay area.
  • Demonstrated track record of selling at least $750,000 in annual net revenue for consulting work.
  • Strong track record of developing and maintaining client relationships and recruiting and mentoring staff in support of business growth and service delivery goals.
  • Experience in designing and executing subsurface investigations, remedial technology evaluation, design, and construction phases for a range of project and client types.
  • Ability to work successfully in a single profit center, team‑oriented and collaborative environment.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Must be proficient at writing, reviewing, and editing technical reports to meet scope and quality objectives, and client expectations.
  • Some travel for business development and collaboration across offices may be required.
