Mechanical Product Design Engineer

Mashgin is seeking a Mechanical Product Design Engineer to join our hardware engineering team. You'll play a key role in developing the next generation of Mashgin kiosks, working from concept to mass production in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

This is a hybrid role that requires you to be onsite at least 2 days a week in San Jose, CA.

What We Value:
  • Impact:
You will own significant responsibility and have total ownership over your work. We stay lean and efficient, so your work directly impacts the product we ship every day.
  • Simplicity:
Complexity is a waste of time here—we take pride in building things that just work.
  • Hard Work:
Forget the glamorous research papers. We prioritize the hard work it takes to achieve real-world clarity and accuracy. You will innovate relentlessly to push the boundaries of what's possible in visual automation.
  • Humility:
No task is beneath you. Whether it's high-level architecture or grunt work to fix a bug, we check our egos at the door and get real work done.
  • Ruthless Prioritization:
If everything is on fire, nothing is. You will be expected to prioritize ruthlessly, cutting through distractions to focus on the most impactful product improvements.
  • Customer Innovation:
We are customer-centric, not customer-pleasing. You won't bend to every client demand; you will let innovation drive the product forward to solve the real problems our users face.
  • Efficiency:
Meetings suck. We keep them short and only use them for alignment, giving you your time back to focus on real work.
You Will Be
  • Owning the mechanical design of major kiosk subsystems and components from concept to production
  • Developing innovative, manufacturable designs for sheet metal, injection-molded plastics, CNC-machined parts, and electromechanical assemblies
  • Creating and managing BOMs (Bill of Materials), engineering documentation, and 2D manufacturing drawings with proper GD&T and revision control
  • Collaborating closely with electrical, thermal, and software engineering teams to integrate multi-disciplinary requirements
  • Building and iterating on 3D CAD models, tolerance analyses, and detailed drawings using Solid Works
  • Driving prototype builds, DFM/DFX reviews, and design validation testing with internal teams and external suppliers
  • Working directly with domestic and international manufacturing partners to resolve production issues and improve yields
  • Contributing to reliability, thermal, EMI/ESD compliance, and safety testing for high-volume deployments
  • Supporting product lifecycle activities, including cost reduction, design revisions, and next-gen architecture exploration
  • Traveling internationally on occasion (~10%) to support suppliers, manufacturing builds, and validation testing
Minimum Qualifications
  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 4+ years of relevant mechanical design experience, preferably in consumer electronics, kiosks, medical devices, or other high-volume hardware products
  • Proficiency in Solid Works (or similar CAD) with strong GD&T and tolerance stack-up skills
  • Hands-on experience with prototype fabrication, DFM, and mass production processes
  • Familiarity with plastics, sheet metal, die casting, CNC machining, and adhesive joining techniques
  • Strong understanding of thermal management, structural integrity, and reliability testing
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with high-volume contract manufacturers and overseas suppliers
  • Knowledge of electro-mechanical integration (displays, cameras, sensors, connectors, cables, etc.)
  • Exposure to regulatory compliance (EMI/ESD, UL, CE, FCC)
  • Experience working with computer vision systems or kiosk-style hardware is a plus
  • Mandarin Chinese proficiency is a plus for communicating with some manufacturing partners
  • Willingness to travel internationally (~10%) as needed for supplier engagement and production support
What We Offer
  • An opportunity to work on a small, multidisciplinary team with the potential to break new ground in many different industries
