Assistant Water Resources Specialist I/II (AWRS) to join Ops & Maintenance Environmental Support Unit on a 2‑year limited term. The role provides technical, regulatory, and programmatic support for the Stream Maintenance Program (SMP) and other Watersheds O&M activities, ensuring environmental compliance and project coordination.

• Conduct sediment characterization sampling, analysis, and planning for Watersheds O&M, SMP, and construction work.
• Monitor water quality at construction sites, oversee compliance, conduct field visits, and analyze data.
• Provide mitigation site monitoring and assessment, supporting mitigation planning, mapping, and next steps.
• Perform compliance checking and reporting, implement permit measures, and work with Oracle APEX, Excel, and other software.

• Assistant Water Resources Specialist I:
  None.
• Assistant Water Resources Specialist II:
  Two (2) years professional experience with environmental permitting, water supply planning, groundwater management, or related fields.

• Water resources management, natural resource management, environmental planning, hydrogeology, geology, and related sciences.
• Numerical modeling, forecasting, risk analysis, and statistical analysis.
• Water quality, groundwater monitoring, contamination, and protection.
• Mathematics application to water resources projects.
• Research, evaluate alternatives, and prepare and present reports.
• Techniques for representing Valley Water to stakeholders.
• Office practices and computer applications.
• English usage and customer service skills.
• Understanding of Valley Water's Injury and Illness Prevention Program.
• Natural resources restoration practices.

Ideal Knowledge for II (Additional)

• Leadership of assigned staff.
• Project budgeting, cost estimation, funding, and project management.
• Recent developments in water resources.
• Applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

Education

Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with major coursework in water resources management, natural resources management, planning, civil/other engineering, geology, or a related field.

Assignment period up to 2 years; the period may be adjusted as needed.
