Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Electrical Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of experience in consumer product design.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- Experience supporting process validation studies and proof-of-concept display system builds, and working closely with external partners to support technology deployment and product development using computer-aided design tools (e.g., NX, Creo, or Solidworks).
- Experience shipping multiple consumer products and with manufacturing methods used in consumer products.
- Experience collaborating with suppliers on part manufacturing and final assembly, including onsite factory support.
- Experience with electro-mechanical components (audio, display, antenna, etc.), waterproofing, thermals, grounding, or product development lead tolerance analysis, gauge R&R activities supporting product scalability.
Responsibilities:
- Design complex subsystems or multiple individual parts from concept to production, including fixtures to enable automation of high precision assembly processes.
- Collaborate with suppliers of subsystems and/or individual parts throughout the design and manufacturing process.
- Drive end-to-end discussions on system assembly process down-selection, prototyping, equipment and tooling needs for high precision assembly meeting mechanical, optical and reliability requirements.
- Identify the root cause of design, manufacturing, or reliability issues and develop corrective actions.
- Travel to developing builds to oversee mechanical validation, design, and assembly (10-20%).
- Balance design considerations such as functionality, sustainability, reliability, human factors, manufacturability, and aesthetics.
- Collaborate with Joint Development Manufacturing (JDM) teams supporting part design.
- Design for technical depth and innovative ideas.
- Solve issues associated with the product development path using creativity and smart designs.
Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. US: $126000 - $181000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits Canada: $122000 - $126000 (CAD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits.
