Overview

Handshake is seeking experienced CAD professionals with 2+ years of hands-on experience using Solid Works and related CAD software
, along with professional proficiency in Mandarin Chinese
, to support AI research through flexible, hourly contract work. This is not a traditional CAD design or engineering role. Instead, you'll apply your expertise in 3D modeling, mechanical design, engineering drawings, and product development workflows to evaluate AI-generated content, provide structured feedback, and help improve how AI understands real-world engineering and CAD tasks.

This is an ongoing, project-based opportunity that can be done alongside your primary employment.

This opportunity is designed for experienced CAD professionals, including those who are:

• Mechanical design engineers
• CAD designers or drafters
• Product design or development engineers
• Manufacturing, industrial, or mechanical engineers who regularly use CAD software
• Professionals with 2+ years of experience using Solid Works and related CAD tools
• Professionals with professional proficiency in Mandarin Chinese

This is not a traditional full-time role. You'll apply once and, if qualified, be considered for part-time, project-based work as new projects become available.

We're looking for candidates with:

• 2+ years of professional experience using Solid Works and related CAD software
• Professional proficiency in Mandarin Chinese
• Strong understanding of 3D modeling, assemblies, technical drawings, and engineering documentation
• Experience interpreting or creating mechanical designs, product models, or manufacturing documentation
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to evaluate technical content accurately
• Ability to work independently and follow detailed project guidelines

• Status: Independent contractor (not a full-time employee role)
• Location: Fully remote
• Schedule: Flexible and asynchronous, with no minimum hour requirement. Many contributors work approximately 5-20 hours per week when assigned to an active project.
• Duration: The Handshake AI program runs year-round, with projects opening periodically across different areas of expertise. Placement depends on current project needs, with opportunities to be considered for future projects as they become available.

F-1 students who are eligible for CPT or OPT may be eligible for projects on Handshake AI. Work with your Designated School Official to determine your eligibility. If your school requires a CPT course, Handshake AI may not meet your school's requirements. STEM OPT is not supported.
