We are seeking an Engineering Technician
- Battery Test to support the execution of lithium-ion battery testing across the cell, module, and high-voltage (HV) pack levels. This role is highly hands-on and focused on building, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting battery test systems while working closely with test engineers and cross-functional engineering teams.
This is a role for you if you enjoy working in a laboratory environment, have strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, and take pride in building reliable test setups and producing high-quality test data. Previous experience with lithium-ion battery testing is preferred, while high-voltage battery experience is a plus but not required.
Responsibilities include:
- Build, install, and operate battery test setups under the guidance of test engineers.
- Prepare and test lithium-ion cells, modules, and high-voltage battery packs.
- Safely install and connect battery hardware, instrumentation, and support equipment.
- Execute battery tests including:
Performance characterization, Cycle life and aging, Rate capability, Power and resistance testing, Environmental and thermal testing, Validation and durability testing - Monitor active tests and respond appropriately to alarms, faults, or abnormal test behavior.
- Maintain detailed test logs and document observations throughout testing.
Test Equipment & Lab Support:
- Configure and operate battery cyclers (Maccor, AVL, Neware, or similar systems).
- Assemble test fixtures, wiring harnesses, instrumentation, and support hardware.
- Install thermocouples, voltage taps, current sensors, pressure sensors, and other instrumentation.
- Operate environmental chambers and supporting laboratory equipment.
- Perform routine calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
- Help maintain an organized, safe, and efficient battery laboratory.
High Voltage & Lab Safety:
- Follow laboratory safety procedures for battery testing, including HV safety practices where applicable.
- Verify proper test setup before energizing battery systems.
- Perform pre-test inspections and equipment checks.
- Support continuous improvement of laboratory safety procedures and best practices.
Data Collection & Documentation:
- Verify accurate data acquisition from battery cyclers, DAQ systems, and instrumentation.
- Organize and archive test data.
- Assist engineers with basic data review and reporting.
- Record hardware configurations, serial numbers, and test conditions.
- Help develop and improve laboratory work instructions and test procedures.
Troubleshooting:
- Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation issues with test setups.
- Replace damaged cables, connectors, sensors, and fixtures as needed.
- Assist engineers with failure investigations and root cause analysis.
- Help improve test reliability, repeatability, and laboratory efficiency.
Cross-Functional Support:
- Work closely with battery test, systems, electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, and BMS engineering teams.
- Support prototype builds and engineering development activities.
- Assist with assembly, disassembly, inspection, and teardown of cells, modules, and battery packs before and after testing.
Qualifications include:
- Associate's degree, technical certification, military technical experience, or equivalent hands-on experience in electrical, mechanical, automotive, or related fields.
