The role focuses on developing reliable, energy-efficient control strategies for commercial and institutional buildings, ensuring systems operate safely and meet performance targets. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with DDC controllers, BAS platforms, and HVAC controls, and will collaborate with project teams to deliver high-quality, code-compliant solutions on schedule.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and program DDC control sequences for HVAC systems to meet project specifications and energy goals.
  • Develop and configure Building Automation System (BAS) graphics, alarming, and trend logging for occupant comfort and operational insight.
  • Perform field commissioning, start-up, functional testing, and troubleshooting of HVAC controls and BAS equipment.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and commissioning teams to integrate controls with other building systems and ensure coordinated operation.
  • Prepare technical documentation including control narratives, point lists, sequence of operations, and as-built drawings.
  • Provide site support during installation, coordinate with contractors and vendors, and verify that equipment is installed per design intent.
  • Analyze system performance, recommend optimization measures, and implement adjustments to improve energy efficiency and reliability.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and owner requirements, and participate in design reviews to identify control solutions and cost-effective approaches.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field; or equivalent technical experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in controls engineering, building automation systems, and HVAC controls design and commissioning.
  • Hands-on experience with DDC controllers and common BAS platforms (e.g., BACnet, Niagara, Tridium, Johnson Controls, Siemens) and proficiency in programming and configuring controllers.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, control theory, sensors, actuators, and energy management best practices.
  • Experience creating control sequences, point lists, control narratives, and commissioning test procedures.
  • Ability to troubleshoot field issues, perform hands-on commissioning, and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail in documentation and reporting.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Controls Engineer, NICET, or manufacturer-specific BAS certifications are a plus.
