Lab Magnetics Inc. is a specialized magnetic engineering, testing, and rapid-prototyping company within the Quadrant organization. We support Quadrant business entities and external customers with precision machining, prototype assembly, advanced magnetic testing, and engineering problem solving.
Our work spans permanent magnets, magnetic materials, magnetic assemblies, magnetic characterization, magnetization, magnetic field and flux measurement, and rapid development of prototype components.
Position SummaryThe Director of Lab Magnetics provides technical and operational leadership for Lab Magnetics' engineering, testing, and rapid-prototyping activities. The Director leads laboratory activities, oversees the rapid-prototyping machine shop, provides technical oversight for customer and internal projects, and ensures that work is executed safely, accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.
This is a hands-on technical leadership position requiring strong expertise in magnetic materials and technologies, practical engineering judgment, and the ability to guide multidisciplinary teams in solving challenging customer and product-development problems while balancing technical rigor with schedule, cost, and customer requirements. The Director works closely with the CTO, Lab Magnetics staff, Quadrant business entities, customers, suppliers, and international manufacturing partners to support new product development and transition successful prototypes toward production.
Key Responsibilities- Provide technical leadership for Lab Magnetics, setting technical direction and ensuring the quality of work involving permanent magnets, magnetic materials, magnetic measurements, magnetization, rapid prototyping, and related applications.
- Lead customer and internal programs and serve as a senior technical interface with customers and Quadrant business entities, establishing project priorities, addressing significant technical challenges, and ensuring projects are executed effectively, accurately, and on schedule.
- Oversee laboratory and rapid-prototyping operations, ensuring safe and effective operations, project performance, and compliance with applicable customer, regulatory, and industry requirements.
- Lead and develop the Lab Magnetics team, establish priorities, coordinate personnel across engineering, laboratory, and prototyping activities, and promote cross-training and professional development.
- Coordinate with Quadrant business entities and international manufacturing partners to leverage broader technical and manufacturing capabilities, support customer product development, and facilitate the transition of successful prototypes toward production.
- Drive continuous development of Lab Magnetics' technical capabilities, identifying and implementing new measurement, machining, prototyping, and engineering capabilities in collaboration with the CTO and other technical leaders.
- Master's degree or higher in Materials Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering or scientific discipline.
- Strong technical expertise in permanent magnets, magnetic materials, magnetic measurements, magnetic devices, or related technologies in developing solutions to complex technical challenges.
- Experience leading technical projects, laboratory activities, engineering teams, or similar technical operations.
- Strong communication and customer-facing skills, with the ability to work effectively with engineers, technicians, machinists, customers, suppliers, manufacturing partners, and management.
