Mortgage Lending Officer
The Mortgage Lending Officer role is a developing professional role. This role identifies policy and applies specialty knowledge in monitoring and assessing processes and data. Integrates established disciplinary knowledge within own specialty area with basic understanding of related industry practices. Good understanding of how the team interacts with others in accomplishing the objectives of the area. Develops working knowledge of industry practices and standards.
Must be able to exchange information in a concise and logical way as well as be sensitive to audience diversity. Limited but direct impact on the business through the quality of the tasks/services provided. Impact of the job holder is restricted to own team.

Citi Bank Retail Mortgage offers home lending services through Citibank branches and centralized service centers. The Home Lending Officer provides superior service to clients and referral partners, originating high quality residential real estate loans. This highly interactive role engages with retail branch partners, operations, community business development officers and drives mortgage sales and client relationships through engagement with clients, real estate agents, and other area referrers.
Responsibilities- Consult with customers about their financial situation, objectives, and lending needs to help them achieve home ownership goals.
- Collect and analyze information about customer financial situation, goals, risk tolerance, income, assets, debts, cash flow, and credit history.
- Analyze financial information to assess whether the customer and the property qualify for a particular lending solution.
- Recommend lending solutions that best meet customers’ financial and personal objectives.
- Advise customers on risks and benefits of alternative lending solutions.
- Promote Citi’s brand and financial services to real estate agencies, builders, and other referral sources.
- Visit customers outside Citi’s offices as needed based on clientele, geography, and market conditions.
- Collaborate with internal partners to support and grow customers.
- Refer customers seeking services beyond lending to appropriate Citi professionals.
- Partner with Operations to ensure seamless transfer of loan applications and provide necessary documents to Processors and Underwriters.
- Work with Processors/Closers to ensure timely closing of loan applications.
- Leverage referral relationships (Realtors, CPAs, Builders) to generate mortgage business.
- Introduce clients to appropriate segments such as Wealth Management, Small Business, Cards, etc.
- Stay abreast of local market trends, regulatory changes, and expand networks to better serve clients.
- Assess risk in business decisions, uphold compliance, and report control issues transparently.
- 2–5 years of relevant experience.
- 3+ years of prior mortgage sales experience.
- Residential mortgage experience.
- Established book of business.
- Proven product sales capability.
- FHA/VA & conventional loan experience preferred.
- Ability to comprehend and explain financial calculations and pricing alternatives.
- Ability to communicate required documents and information to customers.
- Knowledge of consumer lending laws and regulations, including fair lending, privacy, and RESPA.
- Demonstrated customer service skills.
- Strong relationship development and management skills.
- Expertise in general lending products and the mortgage industry.
- Requirement to register as a mortgage loan originator with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry, and obtain a unique identifier before engagement.
- Bachelor’s or university degree or equivalent experience.
