Overview

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is part of the executive leadership team and reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer. The CFO is responsible for all financial operations of the organization, including the development of financial and operational strategies, ensuring the safety of all organizational assets and ensuring that appropriate strategies are in place to ensure fulfillment of organizational objectives, and overseeing all financial accounting, processes, reporting, internal controls, revenue cycle, and accounting functions.

The Finance Department consists of 15 staff.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Oversee all financial activity including accounting, budgeting, cash flow management and fund management, aligning financial plans with strategies and business objectives, supporting the development of targeted financial goals, developing spending schedules and tracking expenditures.
  • Develop and utilize forward‑looking, predictive models and activity‑based financial analyses to provide insight into the organization’s operations and business plans.
  • Maintain financial management policies, procedures and controls; investigate and recommend purchase of financial management system software; develop and maintain common chart of accounts and standardized budgets and financial reporting.
  • Prepare financial statements, including comparisons to budget, project accounting, cash flow statements and fund analysis, analyze and report on financial results; oversee month‑end and year‑end closing; maintain effective internal controls to assure safeguarding of assets and reliability of financial statements.
  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance with all financial and contractual reporting requirements for private or public funding, licensing and regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate financial relationships with fiscal sponsors including management of financials and other grant tracking and reporting in coordination with the Development staff and Program Managers.
  • Remains up to date on nonprofit audit best practices and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations.
  • Monitor that regular financial and statistical analysis of agency operations are provided to the CEO, Board of Directors, and Executive Leadership Team in formats appropriate to each audience, including monthly budget‑to‑actual reports and other program productivity reports.
  • Ensure timeliness, accuracy and usefulness of financial and management reporting for federal and state funders, foundations, and board of directors.
  • Contribute to policy development as a member of the leadership team.
  • Lead the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors to develop short, medium, and long term financial plans and projections.
  • Provide ongoing supervision of the Finance Department to include accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, payroll, patient/client billing, contract reporting and invoicing, and accounting activities; supervise and manage staff and ensure that the department operates in an efficient manner that is in coordination with the needs of the organization.
  • Supervise the Finance team by providing coaching, career development, recognition and retention of staff; ensure that the responsibilities, authorities, and accountabilities of all direct subordinates are defined and understood.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for all organizational financial operations that ensure full compliance with generally accepted accounting procedures, legal and regulatory requirements and local/state/federal contractual requirements.
  • Provide interface with the Board of Directors and the board finance committee with respect to organizational financial issues; attend committee and board meetings and develop and provide monthly financial reports and statistical analysis in a format that is appropriate to the needs of the board.
