In 2026 Working Partnerships USA will continue to educate patients about the changes to Medi-Cal and provide information about healthcare available to them. With our Healthcare Engagement program we will be engaging and educating community members in the South Bay Area, encouraging them to join health fairs with their neighbors, care for the community, and participate in collective action.

Description

Canvassers will work with Working Partnerships USA (WPUSA) by participating in phone banking, text banking, tabling, and door-to-door canvassing efforts to engage patients and immigrants affected by recent Medi-Cal changes. Canvassars should be self-starters: able to educate patients about the changes to Medi-Cal and healthcare options available to them, determine what neighborhoods to doorknock, and pro-actively coordinate canvassing logistics. This canvassing team will learn how to have conversations around healthcare and build awareness about changes to Med-Cal to diverse communities

DAILY ACTIVITIES

  • This position will be predominantly working in the field and some remote work
  • Contact patients and educate community members about the changes to Medi-Cal and alternate healthcare options available to them
  • Write and follow a Healthcare Resources Script to invite community members to Health Fairs and educate on Medi-Cal changes
  • Reach daily and weekly benchmark goals for the number of contacts and households reached
  • Manage weekly workload with ability to create maps and canvassing goals to reach target populations
  • Maintain organization and accuracy when recording canvassing/phoning activities or maintaining their materials

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be available from Feb 17, 2026 through December 18, 2026.
  • Must be bi-lingual in a language representative of Santa Clara County, including but not limited to:
    Spanish, Vietnamese, or Mandarin. Able to translate and communicate to patients in a different language.
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills as well as ability to connect with diverse people, always maintaining a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
  • Create your own canvassing maps to reach contacts and households to reach designated goals.
  • Must arrive on the correct date, time and location during designated time, including reliable transportation to canvassing locations.
  • Must be able to read a street map, and feel confident talking to voters on the phone and going door to door.
  • Must have a strong commitment to social and racial justice.

  • Sit, bend, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Lift approximately 20-25 lbs. on occasion.

PREFERRED

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Prior canvassing or phone banking experience
  • A driver’s license, proof of insurance, and access to a car is strongly preferred. Reliable transportation is required.

SCHEDULE AND WAGES

  • This is a temporary, part-time, non-exempt position.
  • Salary Range $28-$30/hour , 20 hours per week
  • Team Members who use a personal vehicle for the position will be reimbursed for mileage according to the federal mileage reimbursement rate. Options for transit reimbursement may be available.
  • This role has a varied schedule and may include some weekends. Shifts typically include daytime or evening canvassing followed by a short Zoom debrief. Fridays and Saturdays are generally off, with occasional evening phone banking for events.
