Senior DevOps Engineer - Data Infra

Job Summary

Lead the design, implementation, and operation of data infrastructure for Venmo, ensuring a secure, scalable, and reliable platform for product, analytics, and other infrastructure teams.

• Design, implement, and operate data infrastructure initiatives.
• Automate provisioning, management, and monitoring of data infrastructure.
• Build scalable and reliable data‑pipeline architecture to optimize performance.
• Develop tools that transform data into actionable insights.
• Collaborate with stakeholders (Executive, Product, Engineering, Analytics) to resolve data‑related technical issues.
• Plan and execute initiatives with teammates.
• Build and maintain message‑streaming solutions using AWS SQS, Apache Kafka, etc.

• Create large, complex data sets that meet functional and non‑functional requirements.
• Continuously learn and apply new technologies and practices.

• 1+ year relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• 3+ years of experience in software development or related field.
• Experience operating on‑premise or cloud databases/data‑warehouses and/or distributed systems 24/7x365.
• Hands‑on experience with message‑streaming solutions (AWS SQS, Apache Kafka, etc.).
• Proficiency with IaaS/PaaS solutions from AWS (or similar cloud provider).
• Experience with infrastructure‑as‑code tools (AWS CLI, Cloud Formation, Terraform, Ansible, Puppet).
• Programming and scripting skills (Python, Java, Bash, Lambda, API GW).
• Experience with big‑data operations (AWS S3, DMS, SQS, Luigi, EKS, Spark, Glue).
• Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical issues to non‑technical audiences.
• Knowledge of TLS/mTLS protocols is a plus.
• AWS Solutions Architect certification is a plus.
