About the team and the role:

At eBay, we have created one of the largest Ad marketplaces in ecommerce, and one of the fastest-growing businesses within the company. We are on a mission to help sellers and brands of all sizes use advertising to drive significant impact for their businesses. We are doing this by developing one of the most sophisticated ad marketplaces in the world.

As the Director of Product, Ad Marketplace, you will own our core serving and marketplace tools. You will guide the development of our most important systems-including ad serving, bidding, targeting, and auction dynamics-ensuring they are outstanding and provide speed for the advertiser. You will make sure that advertiser budgets are allocated effectively on and off eBay to generate the highest possible return on investment, while driving innovation in billion-dollar products by investing in new growth opportunities.

You will achieve this by bringing to bear traditional and generative AI to create significant improvements in our product capabilities. You will lead and grow a world-class team and collaborate with leaders across eBay to ensure that advertising serves as a force multiplier for the entire marketplace.

This role is ideal for a visionary leader ready to push the frontiers of ad tech. They must have the hunger and perseverance to make a sizable impact on our sellers, buyers, and eBay's bottom line.

What you will accomplish:

Drive Product and Business Strategy

* Lead the end-to-end product vision, strategy, and roadmap for full ad serving capabilities, auction mechanics, and core marketplace infrastructure

* Guide the approach for the core ad stack, encompassing bidding algorithms, budget management, targeting, and goal-based optimization tools such as Target ROAS

* Champion innovation in AI, generative models, automation, and intelligent defaults to transform the advertiser journey

* Partner closely with commercial and finance teams to align technical roadmaps with overarching business strategy

Deliver AI-aided impact

* Leverage AI/ML to optimize core ad serving, improving incremental sales velocity, advertiser ROAS, and budget utilization

* Push product and engineering teams to pioneer breakthroughs and lead innovations within the broader ad tech community

* Cultivate a culture of progress driven by applying rigorous experimentation, A/B testing, and deep data analysis

Lead a High-Performing Team

* Hire, mentor, and scale a team of world-class product managers

* Foster a product culture grounded in rapid experimentation, deep seller empathy, and a hunger for growth

* Advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the team and the wider organization

Operate as a Strategic, Cross-Functional Leader

* Align closely with executive leaders across Product, Engineering, Commercial, Finance, and Legal

* Represent your product area in executive forums, seamlessly translating complex technical strategies into clear business impacts

* Collaborate with program and operations teams to guarantee detailed roadmap execution and timely delivery

What you will bring:

* 10-15 years of experience in technology product management, with 8-10 years of dedicated experience in digital advertising

* Strong proficiency in core ad tech, focusing on ad serving systems, auction mechanics, and essential ad stack frameworks within marketplaces, e-commerce, or high-traffic consumer platforms

* Strong technical proficiency with a validated ability to understand how innovative backend systems drive product metrics

* Deep analytical capability with a data-first approach and outstanding experimentation skills

* Hands-on experience developing products powered by artificial intelligence, including direct exposure to generative AI technology and deep learning models

* Over 5 years of experience in leading people, demonstrating a history of guiding and growing high-achieving teams

* Outstanding storytelling and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence executive collaborators and cross-functional partners

Additional Details

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:

$224,800 - $300,100
