Security Engineer
Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for a Security Engineer for a full time assignment with one of our premier utility clients.

San Jose, CA | New Braunfels, TX | Houston, TX | Cromwell, CT | Maine
The Security Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, integrating, and enhancing cybersecurity controls across the organization. This role focuses on security operations, security automation, identity security, cloud security, and the integration of security technologies to improve detection, response, and overall risk reduction. The Security Engineer will work closely with IT infrastructure, cloud, and application teams, as well as support the secure integration of newly acquired companies.
Key Responsibilities- Partner with the 24x7 Security Operations Center (SOC) to improve and tune SIEM detections, alerts, and response capabilities.
- Design, implement, and maintain security integrations across enterprise security platforms and business systems.
- Support cybersecurity integration activities for mergers and acquisitions, ensuring newly acquired organizations are securely onboarded into enterprise security services.
- Automate repetitive security and operational tasks through scripting and workflow automation.
- Strengthen identity and access management controls, including authentication, privileged access, and identity governance processes.
- Support the secure configuration, monitoring, and continuous improvement of cloud environments.
- Collaborate with IT and infrastructure teams to review architectures, harden systems, and implement security best practices.
- Assist in the evaluation, deployment, and ongoing management of security technologies and controls.
- Participate in incident response activities, investigations, and remediation efforts as needed.
- Document security processes, standards, and technical procedures.
- Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of cybersecurity engineering, security operations, or related experience.
- Hands-on experience with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platforms;
Net Witness Suite experience preferred. - Strong experience with Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) platforms;
Crowd Strike experience preferred. - Experience developing scripts and automation using Power Shell, Python, or similar languages.
- Experience implementing security automation and orchestration solutions.
- Understanding of identity and access management concepts and security best practices.
- Experience supporting cloud security technologies and configurations in Azure, AWS, or similar environments.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience supporting cybersecurity activities during mergers and acquisitions.
- Experience with SOAR, API integrations, and workflow automation platforms.
- Familiarity with Zero Trust security principles.
- Exposure to vulnerability management, threat detection, and incident response processes.
- Relevant industry certifications such as CISSP, GIAC, GSEC, Security+, CCSP, or similar.
