The Supermicro Data Center team is seeking a Data Center Network Engineer to Support daily operations of high-performance networking infrastructure within our AI lab(s) and data center environments. This role focuses on rack-level deployment, cabling, switch configuration support, and troubleshooting connectivity for GPU clusters and storage systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Data Center Network Deployment: Rack, stack, cable, label, and commission high-speed Ethernet switches supporting 10/25/100/200/400
GbE network infrastructure in AI labs and high-density data center environments. - Fiber & High-Speed Connectivity: Install, inspect, label, and validate fiber-optic infrastructure and high-speed interconnects, including QSFP/OSFP transceivers, DACs, AOCs, and associated cabling.
- Switch Configuration: Configure and validate switch ports, including access and trunk interfaces, VLAN assignments, link aggregation, and other Layer 2 configurations under established network standards and engineering guidance.
- Spine-Leaf Network Deployment: Support deployment, expansion, and troubleshooting of spine-leaf network fabrics used for high-performance AI/ML and GPU compute environments.
- GPU & Server Connectivity: Install and validate network connectivity for GPU servers, compute nodes, and high-performance NICs. Perform link validation and confirm expected connectivity, link speeds, and interface status.
- Network Troubleshooting: Diagnose Layer 1–Layer 3 connectivity issues involving switches, optics, transceivers, fiber, DAC/AOC cables, NICs, and network interfaces. Isolate faults and elevate complex issues to senior network engineers as required.
- Performance & Link Validation: Perform connectivity and basic performance testing using tools such as ping, iperf, interface diagnostics, and switch telemetry to validate network links and identify performance anomalies.
- Network Configuration Support: Assist with MLAG, LACP, port-channel, VLAN, and other network configurations under the direction of senior network engineers while following established configuration standards and change-control procedures.
- Hardware Replacement & Break/Fix: Troubleshoot and replace failed optics, transceivers, cables, network interface components, and switch line cards. Verify system functionality following component replacement.
- Network Monitoring: Monitor network health dashboards and telemetry for link failures, packet errors, interface flaps, abnormal utilization, and other connectivity or performance issues.
- Topology & Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation of rack layouts, switch configurations, fiber paths, port mappings, device inventory, and physical/logical network topology.
- Commissioning & Deployment Support: Support network commissioning, rack burn-in, and deployment activities in coordination with server, electrical, liquid cooling, facilities, and data center operations teams.
- Incident Response & Root Cause Analysis: Respond to network connectivity incidents, assist with fault isolation and root-cause analysis (RCA), and document corrective actions and recurring failure modes.
- Lead 24/7 NOC operations, direct technician triage, drive major incident escalations to hit MTTA/MTTR SLAs, and optimize monitoring tools and runbooks for maximum infrastructure uptime.
- BS degree in Computer Networking, Information Technology, or a related technical field preferred.,
