Department Summary The Department of Computer Science provides high-quality graduates to the technology industry. We offer Bachelor’s degree programs in Computer Science, in Data Science, and in Computer Science and Linguistics (jointly with Dept. of Linguistics and Language Development or LLD). We also offer Master’s degree programs in Computer Science, in Bioinformatics, in Data Science (jointly with Dept. of Math/Stat), and in Computational Linguistics (jointly with LLD, expected to begin in Fall 2024).

The faculty members are excellent educators with practical and research expertise in machine learning, data science, artificial intelligence, information security, mobile networking, social networks, bioinformatics, etc. The Department enjoys rich interaction and collaboration with Silicon Valley. We have received a Best Practice Implementation Grant from the Center for Inclusive Computing to increase the representation of women and under-represented minorities in undergraduate computing.

• Teach an equivalent of 15 weighted teaching units (WTUs) each semester (i.e., a full-time position) to be fulfilled through teaching courses (most are 3 WTUs) and administrative/service duties.
