Overview
Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C., is hiring a Commissioning Manager in San Jose, California. The Commissioning Manager coordinates the job site installation and startup of equipment while working closely with Project Managers at CMCo and customer locations. This includes site inspections and reports, contractor interfaces, startup of equipment, and guiding CMCo technicians on site.
ResponsibilitiesCoordinate the installation and startup of equipment at multiple sites. Conduct site inspections and prepare reports. Interface with contractors and coordinate CMCo project teams and customer personnel. Support startup activities and guide technicians on site. Qualifications- Minimum of three years’ experience in construction management; experience managing the installation of mechanical and electrical equipment; high school diploma or equivalent required.
- Thorough understanding of installation of mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Ability to manage multiple start-up sites simultaneously.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and layout drawings.
- Ability to understand and respond to questions related to submittals and specifications.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and coordinate multiple tasks and demands.
- Detail oriented.
- Ability to work well with multiple disciplines such as project managers, contractors, engineers, and end users.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent presentation and teamwork/interpersonal skills.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Must be able to travel and work hours as required to meet customer needs.
- Demonstrated skills in mediation and negotiation.
- Ability to promote a positive customer experience.
- Adherence to Carter Machinery’s values and ethics.
Physical requirements for the Commissioning Manager job include regularly standing, walking, and talking or hearing. The employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. May occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Starting Compensation Range: $86,000 – $110,000 per year
Actual base salary may vary based on experience, skills, qualifications, education, geographic location, and other relevant business considerations. In addition to base salary, the compensation package may include participation in performance-based incentive programs (e.g., discretionary or non-discretionary plans), as well as overtime eligibility depending on the role.
