PITCO Foods is a large independent food service distributor in Northern California. Based in San Jose, CA, PITCO also has distribution centers in Brisbane, San Leandro, and Sacramento.
POSITION SUMMARYThe Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager plays a critical leadership role in maintaining and advancing PITCO Foods’ safety, health, and environmental standards. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive EHS programs to ensure regulatory compliance and a safe working environment across all facilities.
The EHS Manager partners closely with leadership and cross-functional teams to identify risks, deliver training, investigate incidents, and drive continuous improvement—while fostering a strong culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
JOB DESCRIPTION- Develop, implement, and maintain health, safety, and environmental programs, policies, and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments; identify hazards and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Collaborate with leadership to develop and maintain emergency response plans, including drills and crisis management protocols.
- Monitor workplace conditions to ensure ongoing OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and EPA compliance.
- Lead and deliver employee safety training programs, including regulatory requirements, best practices, and company policies.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near‑misses, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventive measures.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to incidents, inspections, training, and regulatory compliance.
- Oversee and coordinate environmental programs, including waste disposal, pollution prevention, and sustainability initiatives.
- Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, ensuring timely reporting, inspections, and remediation activities.
- Develop, manage, and monitor the EHS budget and resources effectively.
- Stay current on evolving occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations and industry best practices.
- Lead and support employee safety committees, promoting engagement and proactive safety initiatives.
- Ensure the availability, proper use, and compliance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) programs.
- Drive continuous improvement by implementing risk mitigation strategies and safety performance metrics.
- Demonstrated experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and EPA regulations.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and training skills.
- Proven ability to conduct training sessions and executive‑level presentations.
- Experience with emergency response planning and crisis management.
- Valid California Driver’s License with a clean driving record.

- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in Environmental Health & Safety management.
