Vice President, Academic Affairs

Position Summary

The Vice President of Academic Affairs reports to the College President. This full‑time, 12‑month, academic management position plans, administers, and directs academic programs and services, develops instructional and academic support programs, and advises leadership on strategic matters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan, direct, and control the Academic Affairs division and serve as a member of the President’s Executive Leadership Team.
  • Direct the development and implementation of the strategic direction of instructional programming and services to promote degree completion and transfer rates.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of course curriculum and training programs for all degree, certificate, and program offerings.
  • Plan, direct, and evaluate the work assignments and performance of division deans, faculty, and staff; oversee performance review processes.
  • Coordinate and oversee the development and administration of the divisional budget and prepare mid‑year and annual budgets.
  • Facilitate grant and external funding development and administration; identify new funding sources and grant prospects.
  • Establish and maintain articulation of courses with local high schools and other higher education institutions to meet transfer requirements.
  • Direct and implement initiatives to maintain the college’s accreditation, including accreditation of specialized college programs.
  • Develop pathways and skills training programs to meet regional workforce needs and direct curriculum review and assessment plans.
  • Integrate institutional research and data analysis to make informed institutional decisions and monitor program performance metrics.
  • Ensure timely and accurate service program reporting in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and accreditation requirements.
  • Represent the college in dealings with the District Office, elected officials, college management, and community groups in the absence of the President.
  • Analyze proposed state and federal laws and recommend policy and procedure changes consistent with requirements.
  • Cultivate positive working relationships within the District and across the colleges to build confidence and satisfaction with workforce innovation services.
  • Lead and participate in participatory governance and collaborate with college and District committees, advisory groups, and employee groups on institutional issues.
  • Attend Board meetings and District committee meetings; prepare agenda items and reports.

  • Advanced knowledge of public administration principles and practices, strategic planning, program development, procurement, and public records management.
  • Applicable initiatives to improve student equity, persistence, and completion rates.
  • Understanding of the District and college mission, objectives, organization, operations, and policies.
  • Expertise in program planning, evaluation, and organizational analysis for educational instruction.
  • Current trends in curriculum development, instruction methods, and educational technologies.
  • Licensing and certification requirements for career/technical programs.
  • Research and analysis techniques.
  • Financial resource development and administration.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations, District policies, and enrollment services, including FERPA.
  • Accreditation standards of the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges and other applicable accreditation organizations.
  • Negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution techniques.
  • Effective large‑organization management and supervision principles.
  • Budget preparation, control, and funding regulations.
  • Organizational improvement and culture change principles and practices.
  • Board policies, administrative regulations, human resources procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.
