Position SummaryThe Electrical COO/RME oversees all operational, technical, and compliance aspects of the company’s electrical contracting activities. This role ensures that all projects, business operations, and field activities meet state licensing requirements, safety standards, and quality expectations. As the Responsible Managing Employee, the COO/RME will maintain and uphold the company’s electrical license, ensuring adherence to state regulations and serving as the technical authority for the organization.
This executive-level position combines strategic leadership with deep electrical expertise, bridging business operations, field performance, safety compliance, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Operations Management- Provide executive oversight of daily operations across all electrical construction and service divisions.
- Develop and implement operational strategies to improve efficiency, profitability, and project quality.
- Lead management teams in scheduling, estimating, project management, procurement, and field operations.
- Build scalable processes that support company growth and long-term stability.
- Serve as the company’s qualifying individual with the required electrical license.
- Ensure all company operations comply with state licensing laws, building codes, NEC requirements, and industry standards.
- Maintain all necessary certifications, continuing education, and licensing in good standing.
- Review and authorize technical procedures, quality standards, and corrective actions.
- Provide high-level oversight on complex electrical systems, project design reviews, and engineering considerations.
- Support project managers, estimators, and field supervisors with technical guidance and problem-solving.
- Approve major project scopes, value engineering decisions, and critical path strategies.
- Oversee project delivery from preconstruction through closeout to ensure quality, safety, and performance.
- Partner with the CEO/CFO to develop annual budgets, forecasts, and business plans.
- Monitor financial performance, operational KPIs, and divisional profitability.
- Identify opportunities for expansion, cost optimization, and market positioning.
- Support business development efforts and key client relationships.
- Champion a culture of safety, ensuring adherence to OSHA standards and internal policies.
- Oversee company-wide QA/QC programs, site inspections, and performance audits.
- Ensure procurement, field installations, and project execution align with specifications and industry best practices.
- Respond to regulatory inquiries, inspections, or compliance issues.
- Mentor and develop managers, supervisors, and electrical personnel.
- Support hiring, workforce planning, and succession planning.
- Promote a positive company culture built on accountability, communication, and continuous improvement.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in electrical contracting, including project management and field operations.
- 5+ years of senior leadership experience (Director, VP, COO, General Manager).
- Must meet state requirements to serve as a Responsible Managing Employee (RME) or qualifying individual for the electrical license.
- Expert knowledge of NEC, state electrical codes, permitting, and inspection procedures.
- Strong financial acumen and understanding of P&L management.
- Proven leadership and team-building abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple departments and operations simultaneously.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
- Master Electrician or equivalent qualifying license.
- PMP, LEED AP, or similar credential a plus.
- OSHA 30 or equivalent safety certification.
- Combination of office and field environments; regular site visits required.
- Must be able to evaluate electrical installations, job-site conditions, and safety practices.
- Occasional travel, evening, or weekend work based on operational needs.
