Refrigeration Mechanic
Location:
San Jose, CA (On-site) Duration:
Contract (0–4 Months, possible extension)
Schedule:
Night Shift (6:00 PM – 6:30 AM) Pay Rate: $33/Hour on w2
We are seeking a skilled Refrigeration Mechanic to support maintenance and operations within a manufacturing facility. The role involves working on industrial refrigeration (ammonia) systems, performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting equipment issues, and ensuring safe and efficient plant operations.
Key Responsibilities- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on manufacturing equipment and facility systems
- Operate, monitor, and maintain industrial ammonia refrigeration systems
- Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and refrigeration system issues
- Repair or replace components such as compressors, motors, valves, pumps, belts, and system controls
- Conduct system rounds and document readings, conditions, and abnormalities
- Support safe startup, shutdown, and adjustments of refrigeration systems
- Respond to equipment breakdowns and minimize downtime
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs and documentation
- Follow all safety protocols including PSM, GMP, and LOTO procedures
- Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to ensure smooth operations
- Participate in audits, inspections, and compliance activities
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and system performance
- Experience in industrial maintenance, refrigeration, or ammonia systems within a manufacturing environment
- Strong troubleshooting and repair skills across mechanical systems
- Knowledge of industrial refrigeration systems (compressors, condensers, evaporators, piping)
- Familiarity with PSM (Process Safety Management) and GMP standards
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, P&IDs, and technical manuals
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment
- Ammonia Operator Certification or relevant experience in PSM-covered systems
- Experience in food manufacturing environments
- Technical or vocational training in industrial maintenance or refrigeration
On-site role in a manufacturing plant environment Night shift schedule with potential overtime PPE will be provided
