Midtown Family Services provides support for low‑income individuals and families in San Jose and surrounding communities in two program areas: financial counseling and reentry support.
Volunteer
Position Overview
• 1–2 volunteers needed
• Use own vehicle
• 2 hours per week ongoing base (approximately 10–12 hours per month)
• Survey and deliver food items from Second Harvest of Silicon Valley warehouse at 750 Curtner Avenue, San Jose, CA 95125 to Midtown Family Services office.
Volunteer Schedule
- Monday 7:00 am–12:00 pm
- Tuesday 7:00 am–12:00 pm and 12:30 pm–2:00 pm
- Wednesday 7:00 am–12:00 pm and 12:30 pm–2:00 pm
- Thursday 7:00 am–12:00 pm and 12:30 pm–2:00 pm
- Friday 7:00 am–12:00 pm
Midtown Family Services office hours:
Monday–Friday, 8:30 am–5:00 pm (excluding Santa Clara holidays).
Volunteer Eligibility and Requirements
- Volunteer must complete Second Harvest of Silicon Valley's online training module before starting.
- Volunteer must have insurance on their vehicle and complete a liability waiver.
- Volunteer must be physically able to lift and move food items (e.g., 52 pound crate of milk, 50 pound bag of potatoes, 30 pound crate of canned goods). The typical volunteer visit involves picking up 4–6 crates, boxes, or bags of various foods and loading them onto a flatbed shopping cart, scale, vehicle, dolly, and refrigerator or freezer.
