Registered Nurse Forensic Nurse Examiner

Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive, trauma‑informed care to patients in a forensic setting, utilizing evidence‑based practice and technology to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care. The RN participates in the nursing process, coordinates with interdisciplinary team members, and documents patient care thoroughly.

Three 12‑hour shifts. Shift differentials are offered for evenings, nights, and weekends.

• Assess:
  Perform comprehensive assessment of physical, social, and psychological status, including cognitive, communicative, and developmental skills, and gather information from interdisciplinary team members.
• Plan:
  Use assessment data to collaboratively develop an individualized plan of care, involving patients, families, and the broader team, and incorporate education and referrals as needed.
• Implement:
  Direct the care team through delegation, coordination, and collaboration; provide or delegate care in accordance with the plan, guidelines, and licensure provisions.
• Evaluate:
  Review patient responses, assess achievement of goals, examine clinical outcomes, and adjust the plan of care as necessary.
• Professionalism:
  Promote the nursing profession, integrate legal and ethical standards, comply with regulatory requirements, and maintain accurate, timely documentation.

• Current RN license in the state of practice.
• Valid compact licenses transferred to the state of practice within 60 days of start date.
• BLS certification for healthcare providers.
• One year of RN experience, or BSc in Nursing obtained within four years of hire.

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
• Completion of the SANE/SAFE Comprehensive Sexual Assault Examiner Program or equivalent, with evidence of clinical skills lab.
• Prior forensic nurse examiner experience.

• Ability to see, read, and interpret labels and patient information.
• Manual dexterity for handling equipment, monitors, and documentation.
• Capacity to lift, transfer, and move patients and supplies, including heavy items.
• Ability to stand or walk for extended periods and navigate crowded environments.
• Driving skills (if required) for patient transport and logistical support.

Saint Joseph Hospital, Denver, Colorado. 36 scheduled weekly hours. Hourly rate: $37.17 – $56.17, dependent on experience.
