Job Overview

The Medical Clinic at the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) seeks a dedicated Nurse Practitioner to provide trauma‑informed forensic medical care to children impacted by suspected abuse or neglect. The role includes conducting specialized examinations, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, and participating in a rotating call schedule.

• Examine, manage, and treat patients under the supervision of a physician.
• Perform physical examinations, take histories, gather objective data, and assess clinical status.
• Recognize, initiate interventions, and manage episodic or chronic disease processes.
• Work under written standardized protocols approved by the Interdisciplinary Practice Committee.
• Utilize comprehensive clinical and diagnostic assessment and patient care approaches.
• Screen charts, laboratory, and radiographic results for reports.
• Advise supervising or on‑call physicians regarding patient conditions.
• Refer patients to physicians or specialty clinics as appropriate.
• Follow up to ensure treatment delivery and continuity of care.
• Serve as a clinical resource and teach assessment skills to nursing staff.
• Identify, design, and conduct nursing research projects.
• Publish findings and assist staff in applying research outcomes.
• Provide direct teaching to patients, identify education needs, and develop education programs.
• Develop and promote quality health care delivery through policies, procedures, research, and professional development.
• May be assigned as a Disaster Service Worker as required.
• Perform other related duties as required.

• Completion of a Master’s, Post‑Master’s, or Doctorate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program (CCNE or NLNAC) with emphasis in a specialty area.
• Current certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or equivalent; ability to obtain certification within three months of employment.
• Current active licensure as an advanced practice registered nurse in the Nurse Practitioner category in California.
• Two (2) years of acute and/or ambulatory clinical nursing experience in a relevant specialty.
• Clinical experience in pediatrics.
• Experience in child maltreatment evaluations.
• Experience in sexual assault forensic examination.
• Forensic medical provider certification such as SAFE or SANE.
• Knowledge of acute and primary care nursing principles, diagnosis and treatment of common medical problems, basic sciences, laws and regulations, and current trends in nursing fundamentals.
• Ability to relate effectively to patients, collaborate with medical staff, identify normal and abnormal health conditions, gather complete histories, recognize situations requiring immediate physician attention, and instruct patients on physical and mental health matters.

Must hold a valid Nurse Practitioner certification issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing and maintain active licensure throughout employment.
