Position Name:
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
Location:San Jose, CA
Setting:Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) | Outpatient Primary Care
Pay:$78-$90/hour (based on experience)
Shift:Part-Time (8 Hours/Week) | Flexible Schedule
Qualifications- Active and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner (NP) license in the State of CA.
- Must be an independently practicing PMHNP who does not require physician supervision or a collaborative practice agreement. Candidates must have full practice authority in the state of California.
- Master's Degree or Doctorate from an accredited Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner program.
- Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
- Active and unrestricted DEA license.
- Current BLS certification.
- Minimum of 1 year of psychiatric nursing or psychiatric mental health experience.
- Experience conducting psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and treatment planning.
- Strong knowledge of DSM-5 diagnostic criteria and evidence-based psychiatric treatment.
- Experience with Epic EMR/EHR.
- Must be certified by the California BRN to practice without standardized procedures in a group setting. Candidates who still require physician supervision, standardized procedures, or transition-to-practice mentorship hours are not eligible.
- 2 or more years of psychiatric mental health experience.
- Previous experience working in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), Community Mental Health Center, or other underserved healthcare setting.
- Experience working with culturally diverse or multilingual patient populations.
- Bilingual language skills (Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, or other languages).
- Experience working within an integrated behavioral health or multidisciplinary care team.
- Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, mental health assessments, diagnoses, and medication management for patients across the lifespan.
- Develop individualized treatment plans and monitor patient progress through ongoing psychiatric follow-up appointments.
- Prescribe, adjust, and monitor psychiatric medications while evaluating treatment effectiveness and medication adherence.
- Provide patient education regarding diagnoses, treatment options, medications, and symptom management.
- Collaborate with primary care providers, therapists, case managers, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate comprehensive behavioral healthcare.
- Complete timely and accurate documentation within the electronic medical record while maintaining regulatory and clinical documentation standards.
- Participate in clinical consultations, team meetings, and continuing education activities to support quality patient care.
